Update On The Emissions Survey
In a meeting with the Arizona
DEQ yesterday the following info comes out. Our month and a half of survey
collecting has netted less than 500 responses. I have a hundred more at
the house not processed yet. DEQ feels that this IS a good amount of interest
from individuals. I can agree that it is if we were to compare this to other
segments of the population and their personal interest problems. But this is OUR
LIFE, OUR mode of TRANSPORTATION.
DEQ would like to see more
surveys. Obviously surveys that show riders who live here riding MORE
away from the Phoenix area than in it would be a plus. We agreed to run the
survey until OCTOBER 1. They wanted to cut it off in mid-September, I
asked for this date so that we can make a final push at Mountain Madness.
So, here is the deal. We have until Oct 1 to get 4500 more surveys in to
them. That would make 5000 which they believe is representative. (20,000
registered in the metro area). All is not lost if we don't get that many, it
will be easier for them to argue us out of the plan (writing on it starts
December this year) if they have more info.
The first plan then is for DEQ to address getting us out of emissions directly
in the ten year plan with EPA. TO THAT END WE NEED THE SURVEYS FILLED OUT NOW.
The higher the number, the better the chances-simple math.
Many with of you with NEW motorcycles don't realize that in five years YOU
will have to be TESTED too. Not only that, but the National laws we are fighting
(CAT CONVERTERS and such), will be slid right in if the new bike owners don't
give a hoot.
The form is easiest for us if you send it via e-mail. Go to www.mma-az.org/survey.htm
to submit onlie. All other ways are fine too--it is just easier that way- cuts
out a step-since we are making copies if all these in case DEQ has a fire or
flood or something.
There will be a BOOTH at 'Mountain Madness' to do the survey too.
LET'S GET OUT OF EMISSIONS!
