Motorized skateboards have a few more months of life in
Glendale.
That's how long it is expected to take for a proposed ban to be voted on and for law enforcement officers to begin enforcing the new law.
City Council members have asked staff members and police officers to propose an ordinance that would do away with the motorized skateboards and consider a buy-back program.

The council also asked that officers do an educational
outreach before issuing citations. Officials are considering the ban because
of safety and noise concerns raised by community members.
Glendale police Lt. Harold Brady said he expects to have an ordinance ready for the council in September. The council takes August off.
If council members vote to ban the skateboards, it will be another 30 days before the ordinance becomes law, Brady said. Then officers will undertake an educational effort to inform residents of the change and possible penalties.
Brady said it could be until the end of the year before enforcement begins in earnest. If approved, the ban will not pertain to private property.
The issue was recently presented by members of the Police Department, who conducted a survey of 473 residents by phone, through the Internet and during public meetings. The survey showed that almost 78 percent of those polled favor a ban on motorized skateboards.
